“Cathy Glasson embodies the leadership we need to transform our care infrastructure and support caregiving families and care workers.”

Intensive Care Nurse and Democratic candidate for Governor Cathy Glasson has been endorsed by prominent healthcare advocacy group “Caring Across Generations Action Fund.” The organization, which focuses on making long-term care more accessible and affordable for patients and families, stated it was Glasson’s dedication to strengthening the home care workforce by raising the minimum wage to $15 dollars an hour and her keen awareness of the importance of long-term care issues as their reason for endorsing Glasson.

This marks the second major healthcare organization to endorse Glasson’s bold progressive campaign. In January, Glasson was endorsed by National Nurses United for her strong stance on bringing universal single-payer healthcare to Iowa.

In their endorsement of Glasson, Ai-jen Poo, notable leader in women’s and workers’ rights and co-director of the Caring Across Generations Action Fund, said “Cathy Glasson embodies the leadership we need to transform our care infrastructure and support care-giving families and care workers. More than any other candidate in the race, Glasson is committed to putting the needs of low- and middle-income families at the center of her campaign, and she will continue working on behalf of those families as governor. As a campaign that works on behalf of struggling, care-giving families, we are proud to stand with Cathy and her bold vision for Iowa.”

“From the first day of this campaign, I came out bold to say that we need a healthcare system in Iowa that has everybody in, nobody left out and for too long our elderly and disabled communities have been getting left out because of the disastrous effects of the privatized Medicaid system” said Cathy Glasson. “Caring Across Generations understands that we need leaders in office who will reverse the privatization of Medicaid, invest in our care workforce, and fight for universal single-payer healthcare. I’m proud to have their endorsement and happy to havethem at my side in the fight to revolutionize healthcare in the state of Iowa.”

Cathy Glasson, 59, is the President of SEIU Local 199 representing thousands of nurses, health care workers and school support employees across Iowa. She is a registered nurse who worked in the intensive care unit at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics where she led the effort to unionize her fellow
nurses 18 years ago. She lives in Coralville, Iowa with her husband Matt, a labor educator.
